Today we’re speaking to Kate, hair removal specialist and proud owner of ‘Stripped by Kate’ based in Farnborough. Kate’s passion for providing exceptional beauty services from the comfort of her own home has led to a thriving business and a loyal clientele.
So, let’s get a little insight into where it all began…
In September 2018, after spending 12 years working in projects in the oil industry, I decided things needed to change. I was working long hours, which meant sacrificing time with my family. When I had my second child, enough was enough.
It was time to take on something rewarding that also suited my life. Hair removal was what I chose, a choice I've never regretted.
Since starting up, my passion for best-in-class hair removal has gone from strength to strength. I had my little girl in January 2018 and after going back and forth whether to book the course, my partner surprised me by paying for it for Valentine's Day – it was a risk of investment as I was so unsure of having no previous experience and no client base… Fast forward 5 years, the Complete Course with LYCON, the Advanced Precision Waxing, Master Class with Lydia Jordane (the founder and owner of LYCON), and my business is thriving!
My treatments have been enjoyed by hundreds of people, all of whom love the gorgeous, private salon space within my home and travel as far an hour’s drive to come to me.
Going from the oil industry to the beauty industry is quite the move! What made you choose hair removal as a profession?
There was no one around my area to specialise in intimate waxing, a few people had mentioned LYCON to me which was an absolute game changer in the waxing world... I looked around the area and couldn't see that I had any competitors who were using the brand, so took the leap. The best thing about LYCON is that when a client books in with you for their first wax, even if they‘ve been going elsewhere for years, you end up with a client for life! They cannot believe the difference compared to other brands on the market.
What’s the best part of your job?
The clients.... one of my clients is now my youngest daughter’s god parent. My clients are my friends.
How did you build your client base from nothing to what it is now?
Through hours and hours of social media networking, advertising, doing introductory offers, showing my face on the camera so people knew who I was and felt at ease to come for such an intimate appointment.
What do you think it is about LYCON that makes your clients travel further afield for?
Nothing can compare to LYCON, it's a different level less painful, I am so thorough for every client, they leave without a hair left... LYCON allows you to do this but using the Pinkini for its strength and pliability, then the Lycojet for the clean-up... the clean-up wax is the most important part for the perfect finish to make those clients always return!
What would be your hero LYCON product?
I would use nothing but Pinkini! It's a couple of pounds more but you get an extra intimate wax out of a kilo... and a few facial waxes and under arms! It's worth the extra couple of pounds!
Also, Lycojet... I mix up the flavours each month and love them all!
What’s your top tip to ensure a successful waxing treatment?
It's got to be the clean-up wax with Lycojet. The clients want to be hair free so reapply the Pre-waxing Oil and give them the perfect finish… I also apply lots of patches at once to try and get the treatment times down; no one wants to sit there for too long in a frog position (let's face it, your legs start to ache) so be quick, be thorough, and talk to your clients all the way through so they feel at ease... talk about yourself too, don't give them the Spanish inquisition!
